People say there are a lot of causes for the defeat of nazi germany; be it the allied offensive, the invasion of russia in winter; mindless retreat stratagies, but what we fail to realise is that the main reason for falling of the german giant was the inexplicable courage of the Russian Soldier.
Even after being pounded out of the Ukraine and Leningrad, the soviets continued to fight on till their last breath, offering fierce resistance both on the Moscow and on the Stalingrad front. This led to inability of the Wermarcht to cut out these cities from Russian lines. Both towers stood still and helped turn the tide of the war.
Another important point on the Soviet side was the enormous reserves of their manpower. The mighty Soviet union accounted for an inexhaustible supply of personnel which, equipped with ever increasing number of tanks and weapons(also being aided by Britain and US) accounted for the war machine that led to downfall of the third reich,
What led to this spirit which never seemed to die out?
It is said that the past of the Russians can be traced back to many tribes which once raced about this land. Bred with fierce internal conflicts and continual attacks by the outside invaders this race was born with the will to either fight or die....
But the step which changed this group of fighting tribes to a global force/superpower was again none other than their unity. The formation of the soviet union was the single most important event of the twentieth centuary and changed the course of war and history twice during the century.
No matter what is said otherwise the world is as peaceful as it is today only because of the invincible Red Army and its heroic soldiers who faught ever so bravely for freeing their mother Russia.
